Indianapolis Colts Rushing Offense

This is another game where exposure to both sides could be quite a bit of fun, especially with the Indianapolis Colts traversing the globe. Despite that travel schedule, it'll still be hard to resist the Siren song of a certain 33-year-old running back.

Frank Gore's floor is higher than you may think. He has at least 16 opportunities (touches plus targets) in every game this year, and that's with the Colts holding a measly 1-3 record. Because of the opportunities, he hasn't finished lower than the 26th-ranked running back in PPR scoring in any week, and he has been a top-17 finisher three times. Yes, we're still talking about Frank freaking Gore.

If you want to point out a concern with Gore, the easiest trouble spot is his snap rate. He has been below 50% twice this season, including in their Week 4 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. That's lower than where we usually want our running backs to be, regardless of what game type we're playing.

Again, though, this all boils down to game flow. In both of those sub-50% games, the Colts trailed by double digits early in the fourth quarter, a script more conducive to Josh Ferguson than Gore. In Indianapolis' lone win, Gore played 60.6% of the snaps, and he logged 68.6% of the snaps in a tight loss in Week 1.

This week, Vegas seems to think we'll be seeing more positive scripts for Gore. The Colts are 4.5-points favorites over the Chicago Bears, and Vegas is cooking the travel schedule into the equation there. If this plays out the way that Vegas sees it, we'll be seeing a lot more Gore, and that's a frightening proposition for this Bears defense.

The Bears enter Week 5 ranking 28th in Adjusted Defensive Rushing NEP per play. They've already allowed two separate top-17 scorers against them without the benefit of a touchdown, and Ryan Mathews was the 11th-ranked running back in Week 2 thanks to a pair of touchdowns. With Gore being involved in both the passing game and the rushing game, it seems as if he's primed for another high-floor outing.

This is what you get with Gore, and it's not likely to come at high ownership. He's $6,500 on FanDuel, making him $100 more expensive than Terrance West. West figures to be a chalky selection after a big outing in Week 4 as he faces a weak Washington rush defense at home. Why pay $6,500 for an old plodder when you can save $100 and get the fresh, young face?

What's the big difference between the two, excluding age? West's snap rate hasn't been higher than 44.1% this year. That's roughly Gore's floor. The allure of West is easy to understand, but it's Gore who should be getting more attention.
