Fantasy Football: Redrafting the First Round After 5 Weeks

11. Greg Olsen, TE, Carolina Panthers

This is obviously high for a tight end, but using the Rob Gronkowski logic of years past, perhaps no player has provided you a higher weekly advantage at his position than Greg Olsen. That weekly value, along with his week-to-week consistency, make Olsen the far and away tight end and worth a late first-round selection.

While most of us are stuck chasing touchdowns from players like Dwayne Allen and Zach Miller (and often choosing wrong), Olsen already has three games of over 18 points. He is tied for first in receptions (33) with Jordan Reed, but has out-gained Reed by 200 yards. Olsen is actually fourth in the NFL in receiving yards, regardless of position. He has 17 points more than the second-ranked tight end in Reception NEP (46.38).

And while touchdowns have allowed Martellus Bennett to come close to him in per-game scoring, it's worth noting that Bennett has two games with less than three fantasy points already this season.

With Bennett excluded, Olsen is outscoring the next highest tight end by almost four points per game, and is nearly six points higher than the 12th-ranked player. No other skill position boasts more than a one point separation in points per game between the top-two ranked players (minimum of two games played).

That weekly predictability gives you roster flexibility and a points advantage that is simply unmatched by any other player in fantasy. While the return of Gronk and Tom Brady to the Patriots could level that playing field for the rest of the season, this four game head start is hard to ignore.
