Some days there is good Rivers, some days there is bad Rivers. Unfortunately for the Chargers, both were on full display in Week 10. Philip Rivers will never get the credit he deserves as a truly great NFL quarterback, and it’s partly because of days like this.
With a comeback fully within the Chargers’ reach with less than two minutes left on the clock, Rivers needed to just make positive plays and keep the clock stopped as much as possible. That means sideline throws and quick plays were the order of the evening. Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso knew this, too, and sat underneath Rivers’ out route to Tyrell Williams. The ball was launched, Alonso snared it and raced back to the end zone for a 60-yard pick-six to ice the game.
