Market Share Report: Rashad Jennings Separates From the Pack
Target Market Shares
1. Brandon LaFell Edges Tyler Boyd by a Nose
With A.J. Green likely to miss some time due to a hamstring injury, there be a boatload of targets for the taking in the Cincinnati Bengals' offense. Based on Sunday's usage, Brandon LaFell would appear to have a leg up over Tyler Boyd in snagging that extra work.
LaFell led the team in targets with nine, one ahead Boyd and Giovani Bernard, who has a torn ACL and is out for the year. LaFell finished with just 32 yards while Boyd had 54 and a touchdown, but the split in production wasn't alarming. LaFell's 95% snap rate when compared to Boyd's mark of 74% only helps to create more distance between the two, even if just for that game.
The team now has a week to formulate what their gameplan will be without Green. It's possible they'll go out of their way to work Boyd into the offense. But for the time being, it would seem as if the safest asset in the receiving corps is LaFell and his lofty snap rate.
2. Julian Edelman Thrives Without Rob Gronkowski
With all of the mouths to feed in the New England Patriots' offense, it's hard to pin down a reliable fantasy option who you know will produce on a weekly basis. Sure, Rob Gronkowski will get his, but what do we expect after that?
Julian Edelman showed Sunday that when opportunity arises, he can still just bathe in targets.
With Gronkowski out due to a chest injury, Edelman saw 17 out of a total 38 targets. He finished with just 77 yards and a touchdown, but that's volume you can't ignore regardless of the output. It was his fourth 10-target game of the year, bringing his target market share up to 28.2%.
Edelman has been horribly inefficient this year, but at the end of the day, he's still seeing massive targets for one of the best offenses in the league. Even when Gronkowski is healthy, Edelman will have viability for both season-long and daily fantasy, and he should be a lock for cash whenever Gronk sits.
3. Jared Cook Is About to Disappoint Us Again
We've seen this script before. We all get pumped about Jared Cook only to see him to give us the double-barreled middle fingers as he lights our rosters aflame.
I'm still going to fall for it again.
In his first game back from injury, Cook led the Green Bay Packers with 11 targets. It came while playing just 61% of the snaps, and that's a concern, but you don't see many tight ends with this type of volume. Even fewer come along with one of the most efficient passers of the past decade in Aaron Rodgers.
Nobody's ever going to have full trust in Cook given his track record, and that's fully justified. But if you can find a tight end with a solid role in a high-powered offense, they're going to have immense touchdown potential, and they need to be on our radar in both season-long and DFS.
