3 Teams That Need Tony Romo in 2017
Denver Broncos
It's been reported that the Broncos would be Romo's preferred choice, but it also seems that Denver is content with either Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch entering 2017.
In 2016, the Broncos finished 9-7, one game out of the playoffs in the AFC, with Siemian at the helm.
A seventh-round pick in 2015, Siemian showed decently well in his first game action in 2016, ranking as the 25th-best passer by our numbers. Overall, Siemian started 14 games for the Broncos, averaging nearly 242 yards per game while throwing 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
But, if the Broncos are hiding their intentions and do want to land Romo, he would be joining a team with a very strong roster, including a defense that has been the best in the NFL, per our metrics, in each of the past two seasons.
Even with Siemian's decent showing, the Denver offense still ranked 25th by our metrics, so a healthy Romo would likely be an upgrade over Siemian or Lynch.
A potential detriment to Romo in Denver could be the team's offensive line. The Broncos allowed the ninth-most sacks (40) in 2016 and the eighth-most quarterback hits (100). If Romo ends up in Denver and the Broncos offensive line fails to improve, Romo may once again find himself on the shelf.
Coincidentally, if Romo is in Denver in 2017, he'll face off against his old squad as the Cowboys are scheduled to play Denver in 2017.
