2017 NFL Power Rankings: Preseason Edition
20. Los Angeles Chargers, 0.12 nERD
As the Los Angeles Chargers head to a new city, they bring with them a lot of reasons for optimism.
Their 5-11 season made some sense from a point differential standpoint (they were -13), but they had a positive nERD (0.71) despite that. They just simply should have won more games last season.
The Chargers' offense ranked 17th by our metrics (17th in passing and 28th in rushing), and they'll get Keenan Allen back in the fold, plus Mike Williams, if he's healthy, and the underrated Tyrell Williams. They bolstered the offensive line by signing Russell Okung and drafting guards Forrest Lamp and Dan Feeney.
With Joey Bosa anchoring a strong front seven for a defense that ranked 12th already last year, the Chargers can play as one of the NFL's toughest teams, but they do draw the 10th-most difficult schedule in the league by nERD projections.
