Denver Broncos' Rushing Offense

Unfortunately, we can't always just spend up on guys like Bell, Fournette, and Hunt. We need to save some salary somewhere. While Perine, Javorius Allen, Jerick McKinnon, and Mark Ingram provide a good chunk of relief, we also need to give C.J. Anderson a look against the New York Giants.

Last year, we never would have considered doing this. The Giants finished third against the rush for the season, allowing only two rushers to top 100 yards against them the entire year. They've already allowed that many 100-yard rushers in 2017, and two other guys have hit 80 yards. This isn't the same stout unit.

When you adjust for schedule, they enter Week 5 ranked 23rd against the rush, according to numberFire's metrics. This has been a growing trend, too, with running backs posting a 35.53% Success Rate against them the past three weeks compared to 29.82% the first two. As with most aspects of this team, things just aren't going well right now.

And it's not just the rush defense, either. They've slipped to 14th against the pass, and they'll likely be down one of their better assets on Sunday.

This affects Anderson in that it should allow the Broncos' passing offense to also operate in an efficient manner. That leads to more touchdown drives, and that gives Anderson some solid upside.

This isn't all to say that Anderson is a sure-fire stud you need to stuff into your cash-game rosters. We did just see Jamaal Charles scoop up some carries a few games ago, and it's always possible this could happen again. It just doesn't seem to be the most likely scenario.

Here are Anderson's weekly snap rates and carry market shares among running backs. It looks a bit as if that Week 3 contest was just a blip on the radar.

2017 Usage Snap Rate Carry Market Share
Week 1 69.6% 66.7%
Week 2 72.7% 73.5%
Week 3 70.0% 40.0%
Week 4 68.8% 71.4%

Even in that one, Anderson's snap rate was still respectable. The dip in carries came in the team's lone loss of the season, and that shouldn't be a major concern with the Denver Broncos entering as 11.5-point favorites.

The Broncos' defense is still elite, and the Giants' offense has been stripped down to the bone. Denver's coming off a bye. They're at home. They're healthy. So many things are working in Anderson's favor that it makes him truly hard to resist.

Again, you're probably not going here in cash games because Charles could always pilfer goal-line touches and there are other, safer options on the board. But from a tournament perspective, Anderson's a boss. The other great options will allow him to avoid being a chalky selection, so it's good to make sure you find room on your GPP rosters to slide this bad boy in.
