5 Leftover Free Agents Who Have Fantasy Football Potential
Ben Watson, Tight End
2017 Team -- Baltimore Ravens
After missing the entire 2016 season, Benjamin Watson returned in 2017 to lead the Baltimore Ravens in receptions with 61, trailing only Mike Wallace in yards with 522. It wasn't, as you can see, a particularly prolific season. Only once since his rookie year did Watson post a lower yards-per-reception mark than his 8.6 clip in 2017. But he was far from the worst thing about the putrid Ravens' passing game last year as they had the 26th-best passing attack, per our schedule-adjusted numbers.
On a per-target basis, Watson was fairly solid in 2017. He had 0.25 Target NEP per Target, the seventh-most among the 13 tight ends to see a minimum of 75 targets.
His days as an every-week starter are well behind him, if they ever actually came to pass, but Watson could still offer a solid veteran presence for a team with a need at one of the most volatile positions in all of sports. In a pinch, he could still have some solid fantasy weeks, especially in PPR formats. Watson led all tight ends with a 77.2% catch rate in 2017, so he's reliable when he sees looks.
Watson may have to wait until closer to the start of the season to find a home, but given his age, he may find this situation agreeable.
