Eric Decker, Wide Receiver

2017 Team -- Tennessee Titans

Eric Decker missed all but three games in 2016 with the New York Jets, and he was released at the end of the season. Decker signed for the Tennessee Titans, and he posted 54 catches for 563 yards in his only season in Nashville. Only tight end Delanie Walker had more yards for the team, but Decker finished a season with just one touchdown for the first time since his rookie campaign.

But it's hard to place all the blame at the door of Decker. The Titans offense was one of the more inefficient in the whole NFL last year, ranking 21st overall by our numbers, with their passing game checking in 25th. Of the six Tennessee players to see at least 30 targets in 2017, Decker was second on the team in Target NEP per Target with a clip of 0.27. Across the NFL, that mark ranked 31st among the 54 wide receivers with 75 or more targets. Not terrible, but far from outstanding.

The best Decker can probably hope for is a spot as a third receiver, but if he can get on the field in red-zone situations, then Decker still retains fantasy appeal. Despite his down scoring year last season, Decker led the NFL in red-zone touchdowns between 2012 and 2015 with 34 such scores. Decker visited with the Oakland Raiders last week, but signing with Oakland may be far from ideal for Decker's red-zone numbers as the Raiders recently landed Jordy Nelson, a player with 39 red-zone touchdowns since 2010.
