10 Players You Should Be Avoiding in Fantasy Football Drafts

Carlos Hyde, RB, Cleveland Browns

Carlos Hyde's average draft position is sort of shocking. It's not that the opportunity cost in drafting him at the beginning of the eighth round is through-the-roof bad, but according to FantasyFootballCalculator.com -- and other ADP sources as well -- Hyde's currently being selected ahead of both Duke Johnson and Nick Chubb.

Why?

Hyde saw a ton of work last year, which was a big reason for his fantasy football success. He was actually just one of six running backs to hit the 55% rushing share and 10% target share mark in 2017.

He wasn't all that special, though. Hyde had a 35.84% Success Rate -- which measures the percentage of positive expected point plays according to numberFire's expected points model -- last year in San Francisco, which was far lower than teammate Matt Breida's 43.81% rate. He also had a yards per carry average that was 0.54 yards lower than his running back teammate's, marking the 7th-worst difference among all 100-plus attempt backs last year.

Like I said, Carlos Hyde wasn't all that special in 2017.

The Browns gave Hyde decent-enough money for a running back this offseason, but Cleveland also went out and drafted the aforementioned Nick Chubb in the second round of the draft. Even if Chubb doesn't dig into Hyde's workload right away, he still makes for tough competition with a high ceiling.

And Johnson has more receptions than any other running back in the NFL since he entered the league. Even if the Browns utilize him in unique ways given their current pass-catching situation, he'll still steal looks from the other two rushers in the backfield.

There's absolutely a chance that either Hyde or Chubb emerge as the team's lead early-down back this year, but given the Browns' actions in the draft after signing Hyde as well as Chubb's potential as a runner in the league, it makes more sense to target Chubb this year, not Hyde.
