5 NFL Stats to Know Through Week 4
Tom Brady Throws a Touchdown to his 70th Different Receiver
The 2018 season had gotten off to a slow start for the New England Patriots, and for Tom Brady in particular. Yet they both showed signs of rounding back into form in Week 4, as the Patriots demolished the previously unbeaten Miami Dolphins 38-7. Brady finished with 274 yards and 3 touchdowns, as well as 2 interceptions. Brady has thrown at least one interception in three of the Patriots' four games this season, which is a bit of a concern, especially when you consider that he had only thrown 10 in the last two seasons.
Brady's first touchdown pass this week was to Cordarrelle Patterson, who scored as a Patriot for the first time. That score meant that Brady has thrown at least one touchdown pass to 70 different receivers in his career. He ties Vinny Testaverde for the most touchdown passes to different receivers in NFL history. Brady's achievement is all the more remarkable, given that he has played for a single team throughout his career. Testaverde suited up for seven different teams in his long career.
Testaverde threw at least ten touchdowns to seven different players, with former Cleveland Browns receiver Michael Jackson reeling in 29. For his part, sixteen players have caught double digit touchdowns from Brady. Rob Gronkowski leads the list with 76, followed by Randy Moss (39) and Wes Welker (34). There is a good chance that Brady will own this record by himself in the weeks to come, with Josh Gordon and Sony Michel still waiting for their first touchdown grabs from Brady.
