Winners: Detroit Lions Rebuild Offensive Line in One Move

It's not often that a team is willing to give up a king's ransom to move up late in the first round. That's just what happened, though, when the Detroit Lions moved down only five slots (from 23rd overall to 28th), and in doing so, picked up Denver's fifth-round selection (143rd overall), their 2016 fifth-rounder, and offensive guard and center Manny Ramirez. Ramirez has been a solid lineman for Denver over the past few years -- he ranked 31st in Pro Football Focus' guard ranks in 2014 -- and he will help to instantly replace free agent Dominic Raiola, whom the Lions let go of this offseason for poor performance and poor attitude.

With their newly-acquired 28th overall selection, the Lions then proceeded to draft Duke offensive guard Laken Tomlinson, a heavy and massive player who stands 6'3'', and weighs 323 pounds. Tomlinson is an absolute mauler, and while there are concerns about his athleticism, that's not a big problem in offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi's offense; he simply needs a big man to drive back defenders to open rushing lanes and keep Matthew Stafford upright. In addition, Tomlinson has been praised for his intelligence and vision on the line, and hasn't allowed a sack in the past two years.

In one fell swoop, the Lions rebuilt their offensive line and gave up nothing they wanted anyway. That is an absolute draft coup.
