Jerraud Powers, Cornerback

There are certain times when being second-best is actually better than being the number-one option. In IDP fantasy football, one does not want to roster the best shutdown, shadow cornerback in the league; you want the guy he starts across from. That’s where Jerraud Powers comes into play. Powers is the 12th-best cornerback in balanced fantasy scoring through 2015 mostly due to the 32 tackles he’s achieved in six games, since quarterbacks refuse to throw at teammate Patrick Peterson.

With Peterson likely shadowing the Ravens’ Steve Smith on Sunday, Powers should see plenty of action on Kamar Aiken, if Joe Flacco plays smart. Powers also has one sack and one interception on the year, so there’s a good chance he could go off for a big game against the Ravens. Flacco ranks tied for just 13th in interception percentage among quarterbacks, but he’s averaging 41 passing attempts per game. That means lots of points for Arizona defensive backs.

Powers is available in 90.1% of ESPN IDP leagues, and we projected him for around 6.0 tackles, an great chance for a sack, a chance for an interception, a great chance for a pass defensed, and a total score of 7.69 balanced fantasy points in Week 7.
