While Bruce Arians' love of a vertical passing game would seem well suited to his skills, DeSean Jackson will almost surely be set free by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. Jackson himself indicated that it would be “beneficial for him to be in a new environment, and the Bucs can save a nice chunk of change -- without penalty -- by making the move.

Jackson, like the Bucs, got off to a flying start in 2018. He had over 100 receiving yards in three of the first four weeks of the season, but he was held under 50 yards in five of his last eight. Jackson was 35th among qualifying wide receivers with 0.26 Target NEP per target, although he was top 10 in Reception NEP per target (0.82), aided by his big-play prowess.

Jackson would “dearly love” to return to the Philadelphia Eagles, according to reports, the team with whom he spent the first six years of his career between 2008 and 2013. His contract demands may be too much for the cash-strapped Eagles, but there should be no shortage of suitors for Jackson, who led the NFL with 18.9 yards per reception as a 32 year in 2018.

With Jackson likely gone, it opens the door for Chris Godwin to step into a full-time role in Tampa.
